Changes to the emergency escape lighting rules under BS 5266 have made the provision of higher lux levels are now mandatory in (1) escape doors ie adjacent call points (2) identified areas of special need ie disabled WC areas and adjacent corridors and stairwell landings where a refuge point is located, as a footnote to these there is now a requirement within BS 5499 for directional signage that this ALL be unified and from the same source to avoid the potential for a confused and thus dangerous exit from a building during an evacuation.
